    Automation

ATS has been building, installing and servicing the WiSA irrigation technology (https://www.irrigatewisa.com.au/) since 2013.  The licence free radio network coupled with the Farm in ONE platform (https://farminone.com.au/) provides a unique combination of computer and cloud-based systems ensuring communications still occur when the internet is down, or mobile reception is intermittent.

Pumps (including centrifugal that require priming, turbines that require pre-lubrication, and diesel pumps), valves, flow meters, pressure gauges, rain gauges and other sensors can be controlled and monitored continuously while recording and storing all information and measurements.

    Sugarcane Irrigation Scheduling

AgriTech Solutions provides training and support for IrrigWeb (https://irrigweb.com/) , a web-based sugarcane irrigation scheduling tool. IrrigWeb provides irrigators with current and local advice on sugarcane crop water use each day.  Using meteorological inputs (e.g. radiation, temperature), paddock characteristics (e.g. soil type, crop class, crop start date), and water inputs (e.g. irrigation and rain), IrrigWeb generates information on:

    • the current soil water balance,
    • daily crop water use,
    • rate of canopy development,
    • water stress,
    • potential yield.

The Farm in One platform (https://farminone.com.au/) continuously transfers irrigation and rainfall records captured by the WiSA automation system (https://www.irrigatewisa.com.au/) into IrrigWeb, removing the need for manual record keeping.

    Energy Efficiency

ATS can save you thousands on your electricity bills through:

    • Tariff reviews – comparing the different electricity tariffs to best suit your pumping capacity.
    • Pump efficiency audits – benchmarking how much energy is used to pump 1 ML of water. While all pumps may pump water, the different sizes, makes and models are designed to work efficiently at specific conditions, to generate a desired flow at minimum energy usage.
    • Irrigation system assessments – understanding how much water is applied per irrigation, how frequently, and at what cost provides information about opportunities to improve irrigation management.

    Irrigation System Design

The irrigation system starts at the water source and goes through to the field being irrigated. Investing in the right design of pumps, pipelines and valves will improve energy cost and maximize flows. Having the wrong diameter pipeline or a pump not built for that specific job can increase the energy costs ($/ML) by more than 10%.

    Sensors

ATS works with several leading companies to deliver irrigation technology solutions to control, monitor and record what happens and when.  Sensors can be used for monitoring, allowing irrigators get the most out of their systems and enhance their efficiency. ATS can provide advice, installation and product support for monitoring technology such as:

    • Soil Moisture Probes – single and multiple depth probes.
    • Sensors – flow meters, pressure transducers, energy usage, water presence, rain gauge, air temperature, wide speed, wind direction.

    Surface Irrigation Optimisation

In field irrigation assessments often indicate that the volume of water applied during an irrigation event is greater than the amount of water the crop requires or that the soil can hold, resulting in water losses to run-off and deep drainage.

Better matching the volume of water applied in each irrigation to the crop water demand will result in enhanced efficiencies both in terms of water use and energy use.

Measurement of current irrigation practice can be used with tools, like Sisco and SIRMOD, to provide optimum flows and irrigation run times to maximize application efficiency while minimizing losses to runoff and deep drainage.
